Train – you can travel by sleeper train from London to St Gervais, then a short 20 minute local train to Chamonix. A faster service is to take the train to Geneva (3 ½ hrs from Paris), then to book a transfer bus Geneva to Chamonix. www.raileurope.com
Driving – we are 870kms (543 mls) from Calais, auto-route all the way. It normally is a very reliable 8 hours trip. Budget around €65 for tolls each way plus fuel and ferry / tunnel costs.
