Chamonix

What can we say about Chamonix - the home of alpine sports, the mecca of skiing, the best climbing in Europe – maybe we’re a little biased !

Chamonix is not a typical ski resort, there is a vibrant town, truly a year round resort. There are actually 5 separate ski areas with the highest ski lift in Europe as well as good beginner & intermediate pistes. The mountains are incredibly accessible – either from road or lift. There is a reason why it is so popular !

Probably the most striking thing about Chamonix is the 360 degree surround of mountains, with the feeling that the glaciers are almost meeting the town.

Bars & Restaurants

Our favorite bars…
Chambre Neuf - wild après ski with live music most nights. Very Scandanavian. Excellent lunch menu. Just opposite the train station.
Café Terrasse – good bands downstairs, excellent wood paneled upstairs bar with views over the town and towards Mont Blanc. In the main square.
The Jeckyll – pretty chilled, good place to watch rugby, listen to live music. Only 5 mins walk from the Chalet.
MBC – lively micro brewery, Canadian influenced. Live music at the weekend, great beer & burgers. Close to the ice rink. www.mbchx.com
La Cantina – lively night club, pretty local scene. Variety of DJs. Close to the Super U in town. www.cantina.fr
Le Garage – highly cheesy nightclub, open till late, close to Aiguille du Midi lift.

Lots, lots more bars in town – to suit all tastes.

A couple of favorite restaurants…
Le Caveau – French style menu, but also with a pizza oven. Good value, open till late, laid back atmosphere. Just off the main street, underground in the caveau.
Munchies – superb international menu, Asian, Swedish & French influences. On Rue des Moulins.
Le Bartavel – excellent pizza & Italian, good value & fast service. Opposite the Post Office, beside the cinema.

Again lots more restaurants to be found in town
